My favorite email marketing course is called Rapid List Profit Formula from a marketer named Chris Rempel. I have referred countless friends to it and everybody I’ve talked to has gotten the same value out of it that I have.
It’s not spectacularly long – you could probably read it front-to-back in less than an hour – but it’s far better than 99.9% of other email marketing courses in my opinion. It’s not the end-all-be-all, but it should be the first thing you read because it deals with the fundamentals, not tricks.
The report is about the only thing that matters in email marketing, response. Chris explains (much more eloquently that I can) how response comes from truly connecting with the people on your list. Over time, people will like and trust you IF you give them good stuff (content, deals, honesty, etc) and you give them genuine reasons to like you. The strong relationship with your prospective customers is how you get people to actually open your emails in the first place. Just like with copywriting headlines, people don’t buy from emails they don’t open.
Think about it. What’s the point of having a subscriber list of 1 Million people if you don’t have any real influence with those people? You could send 1 Million emails and get zero sales if people don’t open your emails or trust what you say. You have to build a relationship and serve your customers, not the other way around. On the other hand, if you take the time connect with your subscribers on a personal/emotional level and build that relationship, you could make a TON of sales (with higher order values) with small lists of just a few hundred/thousand people.
One of the easiest way to build trust (and likability) is to simply email the people on your list outside of your autoresponder. Send each person on your list an email saying hi from your personal email address and ask them if there’s anything they are especially interested in. I’ve been doing this in my niche markets and the most common response is “WOW. That’s so cool you are taking the time out to talk to me. Companies never do that!” Little things like that go a long way in building a real relationship.
The key takeaway is that it’s not about how big your email list is, it’s about the relationship you have with them. 99% of people “understand” this part, but they don’t actually put it into practice. It’s one of those things where they say “Yes, of course I’d do that” but in the real world, they don’t even come close. They build email lists and just blast customers with offer after offer. Over time, the people on the list just unsubscribe and report as spam.

The 2nd best email marketing course (in my opinion) is called Autoresponder Madness by Andre Chaperon. The reason I rank it 2nd is because I think it’s important to understand the fundamentals first! It’s also a lot longer and much more expensive.
Autoresponder Madness is a 6-week advanced email marketing training course. You get 1 lesson per day delivered by email and 1 implementation task per day. The entire product is about, again, how to build real relationships with your subscribers and prospective customers. It goes extremely in-depth and goes over everything from creating your average customer avatar to segmenting your email lists.
The results that Andre is able to produce are unreal. Take a look at some of his accomplishments. I highly suggest both Rapid List Profit Formula for nailing down the fundamentals, and Autoresponder Madness for taking your email marketing skills to the next level. You can ignore all the other email marketing courses because these are the two that matter.
