Use Google Insights for Search, then choose a category but leave the keyword field blank, and hit Search.
Highest volume keywords on the left. Highest trending keywords on the right. Is this data 100% accurate? Well I don’t really know – Google could be holding back – but this is the best way I’ve personally found to find the most popular keywords.

I’m assuming keywords on the left side would be more expensive to bid on than the right column… right?
depends on the traffic source and the competitiveness of the keyword. If you are using Google Adwords, well then it also depends on the quality score as well.
many advertisers may not be tuned into the trending keywords on the right, so there may be some nice opportunity there! With that said, I use both
